Orange makes a hole in Xmas stockings
by Sniffer | posted on 31 December 2001
Orange has found out, the hard way, what can go wrong with special seasonal gift offers - it has been selling unuseable phones over the holiday.
Seems like Orange have had a nasty problem over the holiday period: a fault in their IT system (first logged, apparently, on 22/12/2001) has prevented their over-the-air SIM updates form working correctly, and this has resulted in quite a few customers from using their Orange phones which were bought/upgraded as Christmas gifts.
Although Orange management were aware of the fault, they carried on selling phones without warning customers that there might be a problem.
Interestingly, when customers upgrade an existing Orange phone, they are not allowed to keep their original SIM, even though it contains their personal numbers and short messages. This means that account details have to be transferred to the new phones using the MOSES system: and this is where the problems have been.
