IP phones ... two new ones from Swyx in Birmingham next month

by Staff Writer | posted on 23 March 2004

The Comms Channel Expo looms in Birmingham, and someone asked: "What will you expect to see there?" Well, phones, I suppose. And switches, and network gear and sound systems. Runs from April 6-7 at the National Exhibition Centre.

And just to reward their enterprising attitude, star billing goes to Swyx, which will not only be showing details of its Swyxware software, which is an IP based PBX running on Windows Server 2003, but also two new IP phones - phones that plug directly into the Ethernet socket.

Details of the show here. If you're planning to go, make sure we know about what you're doing.

<1/> The L440 ...

The new entry-level 'European style' L400 Swyx desktop phone connects to the computer network over an Ethernet connection (10/100 BaseT) and offers similar functionality to the existing SwyxPhone L420 phone, but without an LCD display or integrated Ethernet switch. The phone will also support superior QoS (Quality of Service) supporting Level 2 (801.1pQ) and Level 3 (DiffServ) voice quality. From £100, the L400 is an affordable phone for SMEs, and a suitable alternative for larger organisations wanting to extend their IP communication capabilities with traditional style phones.

A new sister model, the L440 Swyx deskphone is an advanced office phone with a larger LCD display for improved visibility, a headset connector for more flexibility and an integrated 2-port switch. Both phones "offer superior voice quality and are designed for power over LAN." (IEEE 802.3af)

The new phones are available at the beginning of April 04, through the authorised reseller channel in the UK and will be showcased by Swyx Solutions at Comms Channel Expo on 6th- 7th April 04 (NEC in Birmingham).

Key markets for SwyxWare include small and medium sized companies, contact centres with multiple sites or remote workers, and legal and financial industries that may need to record conversations for compliance purposes.
