PalmSource schedules developer fest for Oktoberfest, Munich. Hangovers, not Hannover ...
by Guy Kewney | posted on 08 September 2004
PalmSource will be unveiling its newest Smartphone OS in a month, in Munich. Developers will be able to study the new platform, and get basic training in development with PalmSource tools - and drink German beer by the stein. Yes, it's called Eurodevcon, but it's Oktoberfest, too.
Speakers at the conference are not just PalmSource executives, though David Nagel, president and CEO, will kick off the first official day, and he's followed by Larry Slotnick, chief products officer. And Vesey Crichton, who is vice president of palmOne for Europe, middle-East and Africa, is probably an in-house speaker by normal standards.
But there's also a surprise - Tyler Nelson, vice president of global business development, Research In Motion (the Blackberry company) will be talking - plus Orange's Richard Hanscott, who is vice president, business development and partnerships; and from IBM, Todd Moore, "chief technology officer, pervasive computing."
The full schedule includes one day of pre-conference basic training for developers new to the Palm platform.
Mail events at palmsource dot com for details, or visit the event website. And early registration can still save you three hundred Euros, costing €399 instead of €699.
The announcement is available at PalmSource's web site. There, you will note, PalmSource categorises the beer fest as "this high-energy, two-day conference" - and if you like to have a gentle smile, then click here a few times over the next few weeks, and watch how many august "news" sites pop up with a hit ... using exactly the same phrase.
