The little markers are WiFi Mesh nodes, installed as basic telecoms infrastructure in Guinea Bissau, West Africa by Locustworld, working with local provider MTN Bissau
The mesh covers the capital city Bissau, over an area of around 20 sq km.
The initial network is a pre-production backbone using 10 meshboxes. MTN are installing 50 more meshboxes to provide public services and move from testing to production operations,
says the official announcement. It continues:
The current network provides broadband coverage for roof-antenna users throughout the city, and some cordless coverage in the vicinity of each meshbox. When the next stage of the project is finished the network will provide widespread cordless access across the city from 60 meshboxes.
