iPhone - how much of an "upgrade" will be revealed tomorrow?
by Guy J Kewney | posted on 08 September 2008
Rumours and speculation is all we have to go on, reports Michael Stanclift, revealing his belief that there may be an iPhone 2.1 announced tomorrow by Apple. There may also be, he says, a "Genius" upgrade to iTunes, and a new iPod Nano.
"Of course, with Apple, all of this is speculation and in the end it could just be a giant ploy to have a party to take attention away from the upcoming 'its not a laser' mouse from Microsoft," wrote Stanclift over the weekend.
Nobody knows exactly what a new developer package would mean; but the existing developer package has proved good enough for AND to release an "editable map" - a new mapping product for the 3G iPhone.
No information yet on the Automotive Navigation Data web site about the update. MarketWatch appears to have a press release, which suggests that the new mapping software applies to the Netherlands, but the bulletin of 7 July which announced the new version of Map 2.0 described it as: "Based on the Web 2.0 principles, Map 2.0 is the first example of an online editable map. All edits are immediately stored in the map database and visible to everybody."
