Mobile Mac slate device to launch?

A piece of plastic may not be much to go on, but if it's the size of a paperback book, has room for a screen one side and a battery the other, and will be made by Apple, what then?
All we know about this piece of plastic is that
1) it is vouched for by a "previously good source" who has contacts in the factory where it's being made
2) it is almost an inch thick, at 24.6mm; and its other dimensions are 188mm by 132mm
3) the factory where it is being assembled is supposedly under contract to Apple.
According to MacWhispers the enclosure has just now gone into actual production in "large quantities," but, they add: "We will not speculate beyond the information reported."
So there it is; a rumour which might be a Mac tablet, and might be an Etch-a-Sketch. Watch this space ...
