iPhone app "allows price comparisons" in search

A rapidly growing number of Americans are shopping over their mobile devices. Those people who have iPhones can now download an application that gives them free shipping codes and price discounts when shopping online.

The new free shipping app was created by the founders of FreeShipping.org and Coupon Sherpa. Luke Knowles and his wife, Maisie, launched FreeShipping.org in December 2007 as a one-stop destination for consumers to find online retailers that offer free shipping deals.

The company tells us "The site now includes more than 1,500 name-brand stores."

With his brother Jesse Knowles, Last month, Luke Knowles and his brother Jesse set up "Coupon Sherpa" in April. "Coupon Sherpa allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to access in-store coupons from their mobile device, and present that coupon to the cashier at the participating merchant," said a publicity executive this week.

"The new free shipping app is essentially a mobile version of FreeShipping.org and a perfect complement to Coupon Sherpa," Knowles says.

The app, which is free and available at the iPhone App Store, "is also ideal to conduct a price comparison and see if you can get a better deal online versus an in-store purchase," says the PR blurb. The free shipping app features coupon codes for price discounts as well as free shipping deals from participating merchants. Users can search by store or category.

We're waiting to hear from them how it works outside North America...
