Amongst many ARM processor innovations in Barcelona next week, one of the more impressive is likely to be the company's Symbian "Symmetric Multiprocessing Demonstration on the ARM Cortex-A9 Processor."
Describing this as "the key to the future of the mobile industry," Arm points to this first public demonstration of two new technologies working together: the ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore multicore processor "delivering notebook performance with the power footprint of mobile, and Symbian OS SMP capability."
The second-generation MPCore multicore processor enables the sharing of workload among processors, providing more processing performance on-demand with lower power consumption overall.
"This will enable greater responsiveness to the multiple tasks with which a smartphone has to cope, whilst extending battery life."
