Smallest printer ever? - works with Blackberry phones.

by Guy J Kewney | posted on 15 July 2008

A printer in your pocket? Apparently; though the paper costs may be higher than normal, it really is a self-contained hard copy producer for Blackberry owners.

It uses Bluetooth (or USB cable)  to pick up the image, and special Planon paper, either in single sheets, or in cartridges.

Full details on Planon's web site, and accessory info here. Pricing information: US $299 for the printer, and $24.99 for a cartridge of 20 pages (as far as we can tell).

The suggestions for use include forgetfulness when away from the office, when you may have forgotten vital documents:

Reading the small print on email devices such as your Blackberry can often be difficult, simply print them on your PRINTSTIK to make them legible. The possibilities are endless!
However, if you find three pages per minute a tad slow, there are alternative ideas. One (proven useful many times at NewsWireless!) is to mail the text to the reception of your hotel, and ask them to print it. Alternatively, if you have fax software on your mobile device, fax it to your room. And in extremis, you might try some of the many label printers on the market...

The Bluetooth part of the device comes from Cambridge Consultants, working with the CSR BlueCore chip "which contains our own XAP2 processor core," said CC's Tim Fowler, Commercial Director.

Distribution expected in Europe "soon".
