Guildford, October 2007 - Edward Belgeonne, Chief Executive and founder of Destiny Wireless plc, has been named the national winner of Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award for Science and Technology 2007 - one of the most prestigious national awards of the business world.
The announcement was made at the national finals and award ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 1 October.
Science and Technology is one of just eight categories in the Ernst & Young award programme. Competing against 40 of the country’s top talent, Edward Belgeonne received the award in recognition of his ‘strong leadership skills’, ‘determination’ and ‘the financial achievements of the company.’
The awards ceremony was the culmination of a rigorous and intensive selection and judging process that started in November 2006. Award winners have to meet stringent selection criteria including entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, strategic direction, leading and building teams, financial performance, national or global impact, and corporate social responsibility.
Destiny specialises in digital pen technology based on Anoto Functionality™ that helps organisations with mobile workforces to transform their operational efficiency and productivity, and enhance their carbon-neutral performance.
Edward said: "This is a real tribute to the passion and commitment of the great people who work with me at Destiny, and also to our customers and partners. It’s a huge honour to be recognised and selected for such a major award."
Nick Powell, Ernst & Young’s entrepreneurial specialist said: "Edward Belgeonne is thoroughly deserving of the Entrepreneur Of The Year title as he has demonstrated real determination, innovation, and the courage to take risks."
