French law "may rule out iPhone deal for Orange"
by Guy J Kewney | posted on 05 October 2007
It's not easy to find an Orange employee publicly singing the praises of the Apple iPhone, even though the network has signed up to sell the device - and a report about a French network law may contain a clue.
In Les Echos, Market Watch says it has found a report that a French law may be the cause.
If the report proves accurate, the law may make the deal between Apple and France Telecom illegal.
The law "would require the iPhone to be sold both with and without contracts, undermining its exclusivity for Orange and Apple's demand of up to 30% of voice and data revenues," says MW.
