The wireless iPod that's "better than a CD" in music quality? Well, for $2,000, it better be!

"Is there anything which, no matter how stupid, will find a buyer?" asked one iPod user on seeing the MSB Technology HiFipod... and really, it's hard to believe anyone will buy this one.

Here's the blurb:

The iPod is a wonderful product hindered by one basic flaw – analog outputs. The digital format of its audio files are converted within the iPod, which negates any attempt to create true-to-CD audio.  This means that no matter how much money an audiophile spends on iPod docking stations that boast great sound, the quality will not come close.

So  MSB Technology  modifies the iPod to allow digital audio to be sent to the iLink and output via Toslink optical, coaxial or balanced AES/EBU format. "With this output, audiophiles can transform their iPods into a high-end source and achieve sound reproduction on a par with a good CD transport."

Ask yourself: if you want CD quality music, what's wrong with buying a CD?

Answer: they've thought of that, too!  "We have started with the world’s single most successful product because it offers a very convenient way to organize and play your music. Fortunately, the iPod designers had the foresight to accommodate loss-less storage of CD music so with the MSB upgrade, CDs can be stored and played back, bit perfect. MSB has designed an upgrade for the iPod that allows the stored digital audio to be output to your system."

What's wrong with buying the iLink? Easy: cost. The iLink System costs $1,995 for iLink with RF link and iPod Upgrade. Or if petty penny-piniching like that doesn't appeal go for the full iLink with 80 GB iPod (3600 songs) at $2,349 for the iLink with RF link and 80MB upgraded iPod Video.

And the wireless link? Is that legal in Europe? Probably not. But heck, most buyers with that sort of budget will simply say: "who'll know..."
