Blow for Sony and playstation as developer slams PS3
by Staff Writer | posted on 18 January 2007
People "think I'm crazy" says games developer Gabe Newell of Valve. They certainly think he's crazy at Sony, where the Playstation Portable (PSP) is going to suffer from any backlash aimed at the PS3 console.
According to Game Informer magazine (February issue) Newell has come up with that backlash:
I think it’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers wanted and what developers wanted. I’d say, even at this late date, they should cancel it and do a “do over.”
Valve is best known for the blockbuster success "Half Life", version two of which should have an "Episode 2" launched late 2007 (a delay, says GI).
If any other developers are thinking what Newell is saying, Sony has problems. He says: "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels... Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it'."
Why do people think Newell is crazy? "Because I’m betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii will have a larger installed base than the XBox 360. Other people think I’m crazy. I really like everything that Nintendo is doing."
Wheeee!
