Locator phone switches to GSM, tracks wrinklies, and pre-teens in US

The Wherifone GPS Locator Phone allows parents to track their younger kids, or older relatives. It is "designed for pre-teens and seniors and retails for $100."
The device’s basic service plan begins at $20 per month. According to John Cunningham, a spokesman for Wherify, the phone and service is designed as an adjunct to a parent’s existing cellular service.
Apparently, it was originally designed as a CDMA device. The company re-designed it as a GSM phone because that "offered a larger market." The company also upgraded the GPS chip prior to the phone’s launch.
Toys 'R' Us will be the first stockist. No known plans exist to launch in the UK.
