MIAMI LAKES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 2005--Calypso Wireless Inc. (Pink Sheets:CLYW), a leader in advanced wireless telecommunications technology, announced today that it was honored last Wednesday September 21, 2005 with the Wi-Fi Technology of the Year Award at the Excellence in Mobile Communications Awards Banquet, sponsored by Frost & Sullivan.
Frost & Sullivan honored Calypso with the 2005 Wi-Fi Technology of the Year Award for its revolutionary Automatic Switching of Network Access Points (ASNAP) technology that enables seamless roaming between Global Systems for Mobile communications (GSM)-based cellular / GPRS and 802.11-based Wi-Fi networks. Frost & Sullivan presented the award to Calypso at a banquet attended by world-wide leaders in the field of Wi-Fi telecommunications, stating that Calypso's patented ASNAP technology was the best solution offered for allowing mobile users to seamlessly roam between Wi-Fi hot spots and traditional cell towers.
"Convergence is fast becoming the buzzword of the industry, and solutions such as ASNAP are expected to emerge as leading offerings for convergent communications," says Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Vikrant Gandhi. "Wi-Fi hotspots are being installed at a rapid pace worldwide. However, the industry still lacks a true commercial offering that enables seamless roaming between the short-range Wi-Fi networks and the geographically widespread mobile networks."
Accepting the award was Calypso Executive Vice President and General Counsel Michael Pizzi. "Being recognized as the Wi-Fi technology of the year is the culmination of years of effort by many dedicated visionaries who saw the future of the cell phone industry. Our duel mode GSM/Wi-Fi phones are the wave of the future for cell users in the Wi-Fi environment. We are so proud that the hard work has paid off and that we are on the verge of providing mobile carriers and users with the type of product that enhances their mobile capabilities," says Mr. Michael Pizzi
Calypso C1250i dual mode WiFi-GSM-GPRS VoIP cellular phone that runs on Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) PXA series application processors and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) WinCE 5.0 and roams between these two networks is more beneficial for data-intensive applications such as mobile video and data file transfers that leverage the high-data rates of Wi-Fi networks. GSM is the dominant mobile standard worldwide, and an integrated Wi-Fi/GSM solution presents an attractive value proposition in terms of global usage potential.
Calypso's patented Automatic Switching of Network Access Points (ASNAP(TM)) technology represents the convergence of cellular and Wi-Fi, thereby enabling any mobile device to switch seamlessly between cellular and wireless IP networks through wireless local area network (WLAN). ASNAP(TM) also assists mobile carriers in achieving an efficient allocation of network resources by freeing cellular spectrum space for data and voice transmission, and increasing the availability of bandwidth for other users.
ASNAP(TM) allows cell phones and other mobile devices to automatically detect an available WLAN and then switch between the signals from a GSM/GPRS or CDMA cellular tower to a short-range broadband network such as cable with Wi-Fi. The wireless customers remain connected to the GSM/GPRS or CDMA network until their cell phone detects and switches to a Wi-Fi network, at a speed of up to 11 Mbps.
The technology has immense potential since it ensures global connectivity of voice, video, and data by way of the most efficient connection point, at a lower cost to both the mobile operator and the consumer. Switching between cellular and WLAN networks also enables movie-quality, real-time videoconferencing through cellular phones, fast pictures and video clips with data messaging and audio, and two-way data messaging.
Frost & Sullivan presents this Award each year to the company that has pioneered the development and introduction of an innovative technology, which has either influenced or has the potential to impact several market sectors. It acknowledges overall technical excellence of a company and its significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption and competitive posture.
Held in Las Vegas, Frost & Sullivan's Mobile Communications Awards Banquet honors world-class companies for innovative developments that deliver unparalleled insight on wireless and mobile strategy, technology, platforms and services. An annual event, the banquet recognizes the quality and merit of distinguished individuals and companies.

About Calypso Wireless, Inc.
Calypso Wireless, http://www.calypsowireless.com, is the company behind the ASNAP(TM) technology for which it was granted U.S. Patent number 6,680,923 titled "Communication system and method" (http://www.uspto.gov search U.S. patent number 6,680,923), which covers the seamless roaming of voice, video and data between wide area network access points, such as cellular towers (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA, WCMDA etc.) and short-range Internet access points (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.).
Calypso's patented ASNAP(TM) technology will enable cellular phones to automatically detect any available Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and then seamlessly switch between the signals of a standard cellular link tower and an available short-range broadband network, such as cable or DSL with Wi-Fi, accelerating wireless broadband deployment, thereby creating a platform for revenue sharing between the synergistic companies and increased revenues for them by delivering new added services. It could also provide significant savings to mobile carriers in additional frequency spectrum and infrastructure equipment, by offloading capacity to the Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) and IP networks while providing additional sources of revenue. The integration of ASNAP(TM) technology will enable greatly enhanced services such as broadband connectivity, real time two way video conferencing, VoIP and network-based gaming applications via Calypso's cellular phones, PDA's (Personal Digital Assistance) or any mobile devise powered with the company's ASNAP(TM) technology. The patent has also given Calypso the rights to offer license agreements to major mobile and ISP carriers as well as to cellular phone manufacturers and OEM's. Calypso has also built upon its patented ASNAP(TM) technology to create a new technology that could provide 'the' solution that allows satellite radio signals from carriers such as XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio to be readily received by all types of mobile wireless devices, thus generating a new potential revenue stream for both the satellite radio companies and the companies supplying service to mobile phones and devices, and the manufacturers and retailers of those devices, as well for the licensing of this technology by Calypso.
Calypso Wireless is a publicly traded company headquartered in Miami Lakes, FL. Its common stock trades under the ticker symbol CLYW. For more information about Calypso Wireless and its products and services, please visit the company's Web site at http://www.calypsowireless.com
