Orange announce the launch of the Windows Mobile-based SPV M5000

This morning, Orange will announce the launch of the Windows Mobile-based SPV M5000 as the flagship device for the new suite of Orange mobile business services. This announcement follows a long-standing collaboration between Microsoft and Orange that has seen great success for Windows Mobile-based devices in the Orange mobile business portfolio across Europe.

The SPV M5000 is one the world’s first Windows Mobile-based 3G devices as well as one of the first in Europe available with Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 software.  With its swivel top, QWERTY keyboard and sleek design, it is a further example of the hardware innovation possible on the Windows Mobile platform.

Key features of the SPV M5000 include:

  • The new Windows Mobile 5.0 software platform, delivering increased productivity to mobile information workers through faster access to information and updates to familiar business applications, such as Outlook and Office. Windows Mobile 5.0 offers a more personalised multimedia experience though with Windows Media Player 10 Mobile and support for increased storage and broader access to protected content and services.
  • Office on the go - the device’s built-in keyboard enables users to create and edit files with Microsoft Office applications. For phone and communications, the latest video telephony and dual-camera functionality facilitate high-speed connections and videoconferencing.
  • Flexibility - the clamshell design of the device features a 180 degree pivot screen. With its new user interface boasting portrait and landscape modes, the new 3G phone will automatically change to the best interface. 
  • Text, video and pictures - With an integrated dual 1.3 mega pixel and VGA camera users can send and receive pictures and video files at more rapid connection speeds through 3G. 
  • Ease of use – Users can change from laptop to PDA at the flip of a screen. It also operates as a stylus-driven connected PDA with a screen display that automatically switches between portrait and landscape, depending on its orientation.
  • Connectivity – with built in WiFi, users surf the and check emails through WiFi hotspots. With Bluetooth, it can share files easily and can be used on the go.
