Esmertec moves to squiggle. Java specialist defeats PDF technology
by Sniffer | posted on 07 July 2005
I'd love to tell you what Esmertec is doing in China. There's a press release out. The only problem, really, is: I can't read it.
Your Sniffer found the PDF file at the Java Phone specialist's front page. It said "Esmertec officially opened its R&D and Customer Support Centre in Chengdu, China" and offered the link above to go to the release.
To be fair, the release appeared perfectly readable in the PDF window. The problems arose when we tried to clip and paste some of the text. There, we find that what appears as "The opening ceremony was attended by over 120 people..." in the Acrobat application, translates (loosely) to:
"& '#$ "
in Ascii.
A technology breakthrough! How do they DO that??
