SAN DIEGO, Apr 28, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Novatel Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq:NVTL), a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions, today announces the development of two new additions to its expanding Expedite(TM) Family of Wireless Embedded Modems, the Expedite EU730(TM) and Expedite EU740(TM) PCI Express Mini Cards for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks. The Expedite EU730 and Expedite EU740 are designed for easy integration into multiple laptop platforms and other mobile devices to provide wireless high-speed broadband access on HSDPA networks at speeds up to 1.8 Mbps.
When embedded into notebook PCs or other wireless devices, the Novatel Wireless Expedite EU730 and Expedite EU740 modems will provide consumer and enterprise users with a comprehensive broadband mobile computing solution that enables high-speed streaming of audio and video, downloading of data intensive files and multimedia applications, secure access to emails with large attachments and other corporate information stored behind firewalls. The Expedite EU730 will operate on 850 and 1900 MHz UMTS / HSDPA networks in North America, while the Expedite EU740 will operate on 2100 MHz UMTS / HSDPA networks in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Both PCI Express Mini Cards will be backward compatible to 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz Enhanced Data Rate for Global Evolution (EDGE), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) networks for wireless data access worldwide.
The PCI Express Mini Card design of the Expedite EU730 and Expedite EU740 modems are standard in most notebooks, providing quick and easy integration and using minimum space on the laptop motherboard. This enables platform manufacturers to reduce integration costs and maintain external slots for other functions. With seamless high-speed network connectivity on laptops in growing demand, the PCI Express Mini Cards are ideal solutions that address the needs of laptop manufacturers.
"Novatel Wireless is simplifying the integration of high-speed broadband access on mobile devices, helping manufacturers meet the growing demand for turnkey solutions," said Dr. Slim Souissi, CTO of Novatel Wireless. "By diversifying our portfolio and developing more advanced HSDPA devices, Novatel Wireless continues its lead in the 3G broadband data market."
