Linksys and Intamac deliver camera monitoring service bundle for the digital home
by Staff Writer | posted on 04 April 2005
London, United Kingdom – 4 April 2005 – Linksys®, a division of Cisco Systems, Inc., and the recognised leading global manufacturer of VoIP, wireless and networking hardware for home, SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) and small business environments, today announced that the company has teamed with Intamac Systems Ltd., the UK’s leading provider of Internet accessed monitoring and control services, in order to deliver new product service bundles for the Digital Home.
Linksys’ new Wireless-G Internet video camera will be sold bundled with Intamac’s web based service, providing continuous camera monitoring and an array of benefits for users interested in expanding their home network such as surveillance, security and notification. The Intamac monitoring service extends the value of the Linksys camera to a variety of applications in the home and small business.
The Linksys WVC54G-UK is a slim, compact, self-contained unit, designed for users to monitor either the home or office via a web browser, from anywhere in the world. Unlike standard “web cams” requiring an attached PC, the WVC54G-UK contains its own IP address, so can easily connect to an existing Ethernet or Wireless network without cumbersome attachment to a PC. Once connected to the home or office network, either mounted on a wall or positioned using its own self-contained stand, the Wireless-G Internet video camera allows the user to see the camera view and hear what is happening in any part of the home or small business.
For domestic users the Intamac Home Manager™, an innovative and easy-to-use online portal to the Digital Home, provides users with increased security when accessing their cameras via the Internet, and allows them to configure their camera monitoring options. Some examples of the options include: When movement is detected, images are delivered to mobile devices by MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) and email. Video clips are automatically stored in the user’s online account. Users can choose to have SMS (Short Message Service), telephone and email alerts sent to up to six designated contacts.
Robert Auci, sales director for Linksys in Europe, the Middle East and Africa said, “The Linksys/Intamac solution delivers what our home and small business customers are asking for; cost effective ways to make their lives easier and worry free, their businesses more efficient, and extensions to their broadband network beyond just data and Internet access sharing. We believe this solution will help raise awareness and start people thinking more about the benefits and potential of the 21st century Digital Home.”
Kevin Meagher, managing director for Intamac Systems Limited adds, “The Digital Home is a reality. The bundling of our portal service with products like the Linksys Wireless-G Internet video camera shows how customers can use broadband to enjoy new capabilities rather than just faster content. We are delighted to be working with Linksys, an established global leader in wireless home networking, to realise the potential of this growing market.”
Intamac Home Manager™ is powered by the unique web based MMC (Monitoring, Messaging and Control) platform, developed by Intamac. The platform allows manufacturers and ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to integrate products and services via the Intamac portal.

The Linksys WVC54G-UK Wireless-G Internet video camera, bundled with Intamac Home Manager™ is immediately available in the United Kingdom through www.amazon.co.uk, www.dabs.com and www.ebuyer.com and soon through retailers nationwide.
