Death to France Telecom! Twenty minutes is not enough!
by Sniffer | posted on 15 February 2005
Imagine you have just twenty minutes to get a quick one. You know, get it up, insert it, and transmit. Obviously, your gossip correspondent is talking about the job of posting a news story on NewsWireless. And just at the point where you're about to shoot the entire frustrating load onto the server -- the link is cut off.
Yes, it is a suicide matter. Maybe, a justifiable homicide matter. But if France Telecom and the organisers of 3GSM thought to ingratiate themselves with journalists by giving free WiFi networking to hacks, they failed to think it through.
A free twenty minute scratch card makes sense if what you're trying to do is get the poor punters frantic with excitement, and then hit them with the fee for the next twenty minutes. But they've said (and to be fair, this wasn't BS!) that if we run out, we can have another one, and another one, and another. And we have.
But what's the point of entering all your precious text into the buffer, and then watching SFR just pull the plug at the moment of climax?
"Update story" it said. Click, your Sniffer went.
Nothing.
