Yes, it's the Treo 650 launch party! At last! Except...

PalmOne has a lovely Treo phone on sale in the US. Trouble is you can't get one in Europe, and everybody wants one. No, really. And so excitable hacks, always first in line when there's a chance of a cool toy to "evaluate" are queueing up for the "launch party" this Wednesday at 3GSM in Cannes.

I have sad news for them. Sniffing packets around My Jaguar (the boat on which the party is to be held) revealed that the "launch" is actually My Jaguar. It's a party on a launch, to be precise. Yes, they'll have the phones to look at - but they've been touting those around Europe for the last few months.

What they won't have, is a European operator.

Rumours say, strongly, that Orange will be the first carrier to sell it. Well, probably - but not this week. Your Sniffer discovered a stray assistant who mistook him for an Orange executive, and confessed that they were all "very disappointed" by "our failure " (Orange's failure, that is) to launch this week. "Looks like March now," he said miserably.

Well, look on the bright side! It's March!
