China, the Linux market, attracts Java king Esmertec
by Guy Kewney | posted on 03 February 2005
All the OS providers are talking a mean fight about how they'll match anything Linux can do in phones; but one thing is sure: whichever platform dominates China in future, will want Java. Enter Esmertec, buying a Chinese software company.
Esmertec will, consequently, be the talk of the 3GSM conference. It has bought the mobile division of CoreTek Systems, which it described today as "a leading company in China offering embedded software and development tools" which matches nicely: it refers to itself as a leading provider of software solutions for mobile phones and embedded devices."
The deal involves the entire mobile division of CoreTek Systems in China, "including intellectual property, skilled R&D and project management teams, and an experienced sales force."
Here's the odd thing: not a single mention of Java in the whole official announcement
