Compaq will not be the name on the Williams F1 racing car

Relax; it's just a re-spray job. Both Compaq and Hewlett-Packard sponsor Formula One racing cars; and ever since the merger was announced the teams have been quietly wetting themselves about their future. All will be revealed at Silverstone, July 5-7 ...

Not being a petrol-head, our Sniffer is surprised to find he's sitting on a motor racing scoop; he knows, from intercepted packets, what the plan is for the Williams Formula One racing team.

Anybody with a television will know that for the last two years, there has been an advert showing various Compaq nerds apparently driving the Williams car. Putting the Compaq name on the wing at the back cost Compaq a tidy fortune; and now, there's no such thing as Compaq. What will happen?

Sniffer is in possession of packets revealing clearly that the Formula One team will paint out the Compaq logo, and go H-P this summer - and will appear in its new livery for the first time at the British Grand Prix.

And as for what happens next year; well, Sniffer gathers it "depends on results ... "

Remember, we told you about this first ...
