Here's a question to ask Vodafone about Mobile Office ...

According to Vodafone, it is going to do massive authentication to allow users to switch to WiFi hotspots instead of forcing them to use GPRS. The software, based on Dashboard, rolls out in July through the end of the year.
So how does the system know who you are?
Easy; you have a SIM card plugged into the Vodafone data card! What a stupid question ...
So ask it. Our packet Sniffer thinks he's seen signs of a project using SMS - short message service. Could it be, perhaps, that Vodafone hasn't got SIM based authentication working, yet? And could it be that they'll be using SMS for authentication onto hotspots, for the rest of this year?
