Opening a Computer Museum; who is this?

by Sniffer | posted on 31 May 2003

Sniffer was going through random packets from Swindon, a town famous in England for being where Intel is based - when a dreadful series of images appeared ... who is this man, and what can he be doing?

The packets purport to come from something called "The Museum Of Computing," which is based at the University of Bath.

The University of Bath, believe it or not, appears to be in Swindon, more than 50 miles away. Anyway, it would appear that they have a display of antique personal computers. We have packets here displaying an old Dragon computer, an Atari 400, a Sinclair QL completely with "microdrive" and even a Toshiba-built MSX "games" computer from the early 1980s.

Most of the machines are simply a way for avid collector Simon Webb to clear out two rooms of his house and re-install his family there. Nonetheless, they make a fascinating collection, of the early history of personal computing, and about the only really important pioneering machine they don't have is the Commodore Pet.

If you have a Pet which needs a home - or even more desired, a Jupiter Ace (a Forth-based machine) then contact Simon Web through NewsWireless.net.

And in the mean time, the mystery of this guy, cutting the Blue Ribbon and declaring the Museum open, must remain a mystery. It certainly can't be The Boss, can it ... ?
