A review of the NEC e606 phone: "The Ferrari of Phones"

by Sniffer | posted on 26 November 2003

Not everybody loved the standard 3G phone offered by "Three" - Hutchison 3G - but we've found one who did - Kevin Thomas, Editor of www.3G.co.uk - who has blogged it enthusiastically.

Sniffer

Sniffer tried the phone out and decided, on balance, not to do a review for fear of annoying Hutchison's press office. The feature which wound your gossip columnist up was the "green phone" button.

On most phones, if you press the green phone, you get the last number dialled, or perhaps the number of the last person to call you, and sometimes a choice of either. Press it again, and you've called them.

Sniffer wondered exactly what was going through NEC's mind when it decided

a) not to implement this universal feature and

b) not to use the green phone button for anything else, either. Yup; press the NEC's green phone, and - nothing happens!

Kevin Thomas, however, loved it, and posted his opinions in his blog, saying that "everybody liked it" and even claiming that battery life improved after a week or two of use. And he did, indeed, describe it as "the Ferrari of phones."

The NewsWireless review 606 got stolen after about a month, and we can't say that Sniffer misses it ...
