Samueli talks about wireless to kick off first ever ARM developer conf

Three days in October, in Santa Clara, will mark the first ever ARM developers' conference - and the processor design company has lined up the big guns as keynote speakers.

"This inaugural event will bring all third parties/ARM Partners together in one place," said the announcement. It also offers "a strong exhibition focus in over 45,000 square feet," with the promise that "silicon partners/engineers will gain enormous benefit from exposure to OEMs as well as networking opportunities with tools, systems and other IP-partners." And EDA, tools, and third-party partners "will gain valuable exposure to OEMs and SiPs."

Full details of the conference reveal that the first keynote on day one is by Dr. Henry Samueli, co-founder and CTO of Broadcom Corporation.

Samueli kicks off on 19 October 2004 at 9:20 am and "will explore both the historical and future technology and business trends that provide the basis for a broadband connected world. He will discuss the associated challenges and opportunities, as well as the implications of enabling virtually every electronic device to be connected to a network."

In addition, Samueli "will share his thoughts about how the wireless sector is leading the way as the adoption of Bluetooth and Wireless LAN technology continue to proliferate in consumer devices."

Jodi Shelton who keynotes on day two - 20 October 2004 at 9:20 am - is executive director of the Fabless Semiconductor Association, and "will address the likely shape of the semiconductor landscape at the end of this decade, including insights on power shifts the industry will see along the way." She will discuss "how the fabless model will evolve, the impact of an ever-growing market in Asia, the changing role of IP providers and EDA companies, and the shift of design and manufacturing centres around the world."

And on day three, 21 October 2004, at 9:20 am, Steve Vernon, vice president of licensing and technology for Dolby Laboratories "will provide insights on the future of entertainment technology and the consumer experience," including the latest innovations in home and "on the go" solutions. "He will also discuss how technological advances are enabling Dolby formats in memory-constrained applications, and address the challenges inherent to designing for the portable and networked markets."

The goal of the conference, says ARM, is to offer opportunities for attendees to learn from and interact with leaders throughout the semiconductor design chain.

"In addition to the keynote speeches, attendees can also view over 100 demonstrations of the latest technology from industry leaders, choose from over 180 classes, labs, workshops and panels, and view and test proven solutions and services for a broad range of applications from Partners in the ARM Connected Community."

Both ARM and its partners will also be introducing new ARM technology-based offerings.

The ARM Developers' Conference will be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, in Santa Clara, California.
