Televersa Online Selects Proxim Wireless for WiMAX Network in Germany

Full Service Provider to Offer DSL and WiMAX to Ensure Best Customer Experience in Rural Areas : London, July 1, 2008 - Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM), a leading provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play, today announced that Televersa Online GmbH, a leading full service telecommunications provider in Bavaria, Germany, has chosen Proxim Tsunami(tm) MP.16 WiMAX products to build its WiMAX network.
Televersa made this decision after acquiring a 3.5GHz broadband wireless access license for the network. Televersa Online has already deployed Proxim Tsunami MP.11 base stations and subscriber units as the core communications platform for its wireless "viaAIR" service across the 20,000 sq km region.
Televersa Online serves a population of 2.5 million people in 750,000 households and businesses throughout South East Bavaria, a mostly rural area covering approximately 20,000 square kilometers (12,400 square miles), from Munich Airport to the Czech and Austrian borders. Many of Televersa's customers either had no other option for fast Internet access or were dependent on expensive and often insufficient alternatives. The company's wireless "viaAIR" service is designed to reach 95 percent of the region's households and businesses, while wired DSL connections are available to only 60 percent. Following the deployment of a WiMAX network, Televersa Online will be able to offer either wireless DSL or WiMAX depending upon the customer's location.
"Until recently, South East Bavaria was at a competitive disadvantage in comparison to other regions in Germany because broadband access was unavailable or far too expensive for residents and businesses," said Jörg Kiessling, Managing Director of Televersa Online GmbH. "Proxim Wireless has helped us to reduce digital exclusion and bring affordable, high-speed broadband access to customers throughout our service area wherever they are located."
Televersa Online has already deployed over 400 Proxim Tsunami MP.11 base stations throughout much of the region, providing its customers with a broad portfolio of services supporting internet access, voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony, and video streaming. License-free MP.11 technology allows Televersa Online to offer a high-performance service in regions outside of its WiMAX license as well as offer cost-effective internet connection to areas with less than 50 customers. With the addition of the WiMAX network, Televersa Online will be able to launch a broadband wireless service to even the most remote areas.
"Even though digital inclusion is being placed high on the political agenda in many parts of the world, there are still rural areas in even the most advanced countries that have little or no online access, causing social inequalities and leading to social exclusion," said Lionel Chmilewsky, Executive Vice President, Proxim Wireless. "We're pleased that our technology is an enabler for social inclusion and will allow Televersa Online to provide services quickly and cost-effectively to subscribers throughout its service region."
