Comes with music - at a price, Nokia

by Guy J Kewney | posted on 18 April 2008

Considering tons of tunes come "free" with the CWM phone, maybe fifteen pounds is a reasonable upfront price; but Nokia's attempt to produce a rival to the iPod in a phone phone is getting criticism.

It's a bit odd, really, because it's not iTunes, nor trying to be, and many people have praised the ComesWithMusic initiative.
Quote from Ars Technica:

A "well-informed" industry executive told The Hollywood Reporter that UMG would get a $35 cut from each Nokia phone sold. Paid Content reports that a source "familiar with the situation" pegged the tag at $33.50. Either way, it's a big number for Nokia to absorb, and it seems logical that other labels would have a similar figure in mind for access to their catalogs.
