Chipset maker Via will focus on "ultra mobility" at Technology Forum, during Computex

As usual during the Far East's biggest computer convention, Via will be running its own invitation-only conference, VTF2007, with mobility as its major theme. "Enabling the ultra mobile lifestyle is all about making access to the content, applications, and services that people want and need as convenient as possible," the company announced.

The comment was made by Richard Brown, Vice President of Corporate Marketing at VIA.

The eighth annual VIA Technology Forum will take place in Taipei on Wednesday 6 June, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Ultra Mobility, explained the official release, is "the convergence of computing, communications and entertainment applications and services combined with significant advances in technology integration, power efficiency and miniaturisation."

This, said Richard Brown, "is accelerating the development and proliferation of a new generation of x86 devices that are smaller, lighter, quieter and with longer battery life than ever before."

The Forum will divide its presentations in two technology tracks:

  • Enabling Ultra Mobility
  • This track examines the latest ultra mobile platform technologies that extend battery life, enhance connectivity and drive platform miniaturization, and the key applications and services that are enabling greater convenience and access to communications, information and entertainment resources; together with a maturing infrastructure, they are driving the adoption of these ultra mobile devices.

  • Connected Client Computing
  • This track looks at the key trends in client computing, including developments in software and hardware, and their impact on the total cost of ownership; it will also focus on innovative approaches to client computing that are opening up whole new possibilities for enabling access to IT, highlighting case studies of successful implementations in both developed and emerging markets.

More details will appear on the VTF web site shortly. Via itself can be found at www.via.com.tw
