Go sight-seeing with Google Maps - on your mobile!
by Staff Writer | posted on 05 February 2007
Google has blogged the release of a Windows Mobile (Microsoft cellphone OS) version of its mapping software, thus putting California residents at serious risk of road traffic mayhem as software engineers start testing it.
Marcus Bulach, software engineer with Google, blogged it: "User feedback is always an important part of our product development process, and for our latest version of Google Maps for mobile, we decided to put ourselves in the driver's seat."
With fellow software engineer Jonathan Dixon, Bulach left his London office "to help test out the new features on the Windows Mobile edition of Google Maps for mobile while visiting the Google Mountain View campus."
Bulach says he was not a hazard to navigation. Well, at least he wasn't staring at the display of his mobile while driving: "I focused on staying on the right side of the road while Jonathan, oblivious to the sights around him, focused on trying out the satellite imagery on his mobile phone."
