Palm's 3G Treo treat for the UK: next month, it admits
by Tony Smith | posted on 21 August 2006
Palm has confirmed it will launch its next Treo smart phone in the UK next month, a move revealed first by Reg Hardware in July this year, just after the device was announced.
According to a Palm spokeswoman cited by Reuters, the formal unveiling will come on 12 September. So far Palm and partner Vodafone have only said the device will appear "later this year". Indeed, the spokeswoman said the company will only admit that the gadget will ship before the end of 2006.
Last month, Palm and Vodafone said the carrier would be the first European network to offer the 3G Treo, which will run Windows Mobile 5.0. The device is believed to include a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth and an SD card slot for expansion. It's not known if the handset will also host a Wi-Fi adaptor or whether its 3G radio will support the HSDPA high-speed download technology.
