Nokia updates PC Suite to connect smartphones to PCs. Sony Ericsson users beware!

It's good to know that if you have PC Suite on your PC, some of the problems may have been fixed - at least, one reviewer thinks they are. It has to be said, it needed mending.

The new download is automatic for PC users connected to the Web. Steve Litchfield, Symbian expert, reports that the 19 meg patch "downloaded in 2 minutes flat, installed itself in the background (no deinstallation of previous versions needed, hurrah) while I read my email and then asked to restart the PC."

On the restart, PC Suite popped up the 'Get connected' wizard, "but I cancelled it as my Bluetooth-enabled N70 had already popped up in the system tray, properly connected. Err... surely it can't be that simple?"

We'll report further. This machine couldn't get online with PC Suite and a Nokia N90 this morning but as usual, it's impossible to guess whether this is because the local carrier has screwed up roaming permissions, or because PC Suite is quite capable of screwing up its connectoids without any help from TIM.

But the experiment will have to wait till we are back home. The working phone for this trip is the Walkman phone mentioned elsewhere, and it, too, has a PC Suite to connect it to the PC. Let's not tempt fate by assuming the two programs can distinguish between each otehr's settings...
