Afaria is "the only leading mobile device management and security solution that enables a company to manage BlackBerry devices from the same administrative console as its other mobile devices." And, at the Gartner Detroit summit, iAnywhere has announced a new version of this software.
The latest version includes greatly expanded capabilities for managing RIM BlackBerry devices, and also includes full management and security capabilities for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, including new device monitoring capabilities.
Other enhancements include a permanent client identifier for handhelds, and inventory management improvements for converged mobile devices.
The software is indeed acknowledged as the technology - and market - leader for mobile device management, and most other successful mobile manager products turn out to be "partnership deals" with Sybase, owner of iAnywhere.
PR statement by the company: "With Afaria 5.4, it’s easy for administrators to manage all of their mobile devices, including BlackBerry, Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone, Palm and Symbian <1/>devices, and even laptop computers from a single console," said Joe Owen, vice president, engineering, iAnywhere. "This is a huge advantage for companies who need to manage and secure a variety of devices. Now all of these devices can be easily managed and tracked through the <1/>Afaria Management console."
