"I'm just going into a tunnel... kssshhhh" - mobile jammer finds new application

Don't get excited about this outside Japan or the US; a cellphone jammer is being (legally? probably not!) sold into the American market. It has only a 3 metre range; ideal for jamming your own phone.
At least, that's Red Ferret's take. "It has two modes: one gives 70 seconds jamming (i.e. peace) around you; the other fades out the call ‘with natural atmosphere’ presumably to help you end calls you’d rather not continue," says the Ferret.
Read the small print: it works on FOMA and CDMA phones. Use it to disrupt the loud shouter in the seat behind you, and you'll break the law, without any effect on the nuisance.
The Ferret thinks the laws on cellphone jamming may be changed, which is highly unlikely unless all cinema audiences get issued with personal fire alarms in every seat.
