Genuinely free WiFi - no credit card needed - for December, from Trustive

by Guy J Kewney | posted on 02 December 2005

I just finished signing up for free WiFi, world-wide, throughout December. It's a special deal with Trustive, which is doing a mailing-list acquisition promotion - probably designed to collect at least 10,000 names and addresses of hotspot users. But at least there is no need to have your credit card details handy. This is genuinely free.

The promotion says: "We are offering the public 200 free minutes of wireless worldwide Internet access at its 10,000 Hotspots, valid to the end of December. The offer will be limited to the first 10,000 people who register on Trustive's website. There is no contract or obligation associated with the offer."

Trustive aggregates hotspots; it has signed up people like Readytosurf, Deutsche Telekom's T-Systems, Mach and Tele2. If you have a Trustive account, you are de facto a member of any of those.

It's worth noting that even if you don't want to sign up, the Trustive site is worth a visit, because of its hotspot finder. Punch in your location, and it will point you at a nearby WiFi Internet provider on its list.

And yes, there are still free subscriptions available, a day after the promotion started. If they do run out before you log in, it's worth noting: you can get promotion codes from partners like Belkin, Toshiba, Dell, Packard Bell, and others, when buying wireless gear.
