Beware: noisiest alien invaders ever on US cellphones!

by Sniffer | posted on 23 November 2005

Your Sniffer has received a message about the teenaged menace pictured here. It seems American's less mature citizens are, as they say in the shrink trade, completely barking. Or, if they aren't, America's cellphone networks think they are. It's an SMS-based Alien Invasion game, they say. Yeah, right...

Sniffer

Here's how the "official announcement" put it: "Cell phones are now being invaded by a new mobile service called Jenny Jet that fuses blogging and text messaging to create an interactive sci-fi adventure. Featuring Alien Greys, Reptoids, the Feds, and a 17 year-old girl named Jenny Jet whose parents were abducted by aliens!"

What's the story  here?

"Jenny Jet, notorious agent 53669, for the Central Mobile Intelligence Agency (CMIA), is caught up in the middle of the biggest conspiracy this side of the galaxy. For the last five decades aliens have been meeting with a secret shadow government here on earth. A clandestine agreement..."

Jenny Jet? The cartoon character, right? Baffled, the Hunky Mouse asked our sharpest reporter to contact Mike Grenville of the SMS ginger group, 160 characters  whether this sort of insanity was commonplace enough to become popular.

"God knows," is roughly what Grenville said. He's heard of location-based SMS games in Sweden, but frankly, if the carriers involved in this daft venture are expecting to get rich, they're going down a path which leads nowhere on the map.

Produced by SMS Media Group, Jenny Jet sends text message alerts to get the story out, and then subscribers are able to blog and interact with others on the web (it says). People can post their UFO sightings, share ideas, and any information they might have about the alien/government conspiracy.

Yes, but WHY? "The sci-fi thriller is based on real documents, interviews and sightings. There's the Alien Greys who have been doing covert research for years in underground facilities to decipher the human genetic code. Then there are the Reptoids..."

Enough! Oh, and if you go to Jenny Jet's web site, beware. Apparently American teens are still hooked on heavy metal rock which was definitely popular with teens - but that was 15 to 20 years ago. And the web site will play this Heavy Metal Rock over your computer speakers if you go there

It will even play that rock track if you go to read the official press release

You have been warned...

Oh, and a final warning: don't respond texting "JENNY" to 53669 from your phone. That's a US based short text code, and it simply won't work in the UK. Well, if it does, it would be a coincidence...
