True MIMO(TM) Gen3 Chipset From Airgo Enables High Definition TV, Music, Games and Voice Calls to Share Single, Wireless Network

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 7 - In a move designed to meet increasing customer demand for higher speed, longer range and new  multimedia applications support in wireless home networks, industry innovator Airgo Networks, Inc., today announced that NETGEAR, Inc. will ship the world's fastest consumer wireless networking solution based on Airgo's third generation True MIMO chipset.  The NETGEAR wireless product line, named RangeMax 240, consists of router products, USB products for desk top and work station PCs and small adapter cards for laptops.  All of these products support True MIMO Gen3 data rates up to 240Mbps, providing consumers with faster-than-wired speeds over a wireless network -- at almost five times the speed of other conventional wireless networking technologies on the market today. Offering better transmission range and reliability than ever before, Airgo True MIMO Gen3 also allows consumers wireless access anywhere in the home for media-rich content, such as music, photo sharing, games, voice and even video applications.

"Airgo was the first mass market wireless chipmaker to break the Ethernet barrier, and we are now the only silicon provider partnering with OEMs to offer faster-than-wired products to consumers for this holiday season," said Greg Raleigh, president and CEO of Airgo Networks.  "Now that consumers can get wireless product performance that reaches beyond 100Mbps Ethernet speeds, many will stop bothering with the hassle of running wires.

The new True MIMO Gen3 powered RangeMax 240 products from NETGEAR are going to revolutionise the way consumers use technology in the home."

"We are confident in the success of the new RangeMax 240 product line," said Patrick Lo, CEO of NETGEAR.  "If there is one truth in consumer technology, it is that speed combined with convenience sells.  With 240Mbps speed combined with fantastic range, we can now realise the full potential of digitally networked multimedia consumer electronics in the home.  It is rare that a company is able to offer its customers a leapfrog technology like our RangeMax 240 based on True MIMO Gen3."

Products featuring Airgo Gen3 True MIMO are fully 802.11a/b/g compatible, so can be used with any other 802.11 device on a network.

Real-world tests show that Airgo's third generation True MIMO provides actual TCP/IP throughput of more than 120Mbps with uncompressed traffic, surpassing the performance of wired 100BaseT Ethernet. In addition, Airgo's True MIMO Gen3 chipset features a single chip with two complete radios fully integrated to achieve further aggressive board-level integration, which has resulted in a 15% reduction in the overall Bill of Material (BOM) cost and a 20% reduction in power consumption.

    About Airgo Networks, Inc.

The founders of Airgo Networks have pioneered a wireless communication
technique known as Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). A breakthrough in wireless, MIMO OFDM has been adopted as the foundation for defining the new IEEE 802.11n standard for next generation Wi-Fi(R). Airgo is first-to-market with 802.11a/b/g-compliant MIMO enhanced chipset, software and reference design solutions. Now in its third generation, Airgo's True MIMO(TM) technology has surpassed the speed of wireline connections, enabling the most bandwidth-intensive applications and eliminating the need for wires at home, at work, and in public places. Founded in January 2001, the company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, USA. Information about Airgo Networks is available at http://www.airgonetworks.com
