"Walkman phone" due for appearance in UK through Orange in August
by Guy Kewney | posted on 20 July 2005
Sony-Ericsson is launching a challenge to the iPod, with the W800i Walkman branded phone getting a high profile launch in the UK by Orange on August 12th. At midnight.
Strangely, Technometrica Market Intelligence has discovered that this unannounced product (revealed only to the trade in the US so far) hasn't persuaded US buyers to switch from the iPod to Walkman. "At this stage in the game, the iPod generation -- and that term encompasses more than age -- appears to be shunning the Walkman Phone, even at the conceptual stage," said a researcher at the company.
That'll be why Sony Ericsson plans to promote it, what do you bet...?
