Vonage pours scorn on BT Fusion "challenges and restrictions"
by Staff Writer | posted on 16 June 2005
Following yesterday's announcement from BT regarding its new Fusion service, Kerry Ritz, Managing Director at broadband telephony pioneer Vonage UK has issued the following statement
"Today's BT Fusion announcement highlights the fact that incumbent telephone service providers are recognising the importance of new technologies and the benefits that these bring to the market.
We, at Vonage, believe that any customer offering should focus on convenience and relevance for the customer and in this case BT has not made its proposition clear and the Fusion concept presents challenges and restrictions to the UK customer.
"The fact that call charges made from the Fusion line vary depending on where the caller is located, that all incoming calls are charged at mobile rates, that the service is restricted to current BT customers and that you still require a landline as well as broadband line are only a couple of issues that question the wide adoption of this product.
"With our Vonage service we want our customers to benefit from a transparent proposition at the same time that they benefit from a high quality service at a very competitive and simplified price model. Although the concept of BT Fusion may sound appealing, we would urge consumers to gain a clear understanding of the service and its costs before signing up."
