Web awareness, Nokia moblogs, and the one that got away from Angling Times

Seldom has there been such a successful promotion as the decision of Nokia and Angling Times to set up a fishing mobile blog - take a picture of your catch by the river side, and instantly, post it to the blog.

A brilliant notion! And everybody has been writing about it - do NOT Google for "Angling Times" and "nokia" because you'll get hundreds of hits, all repeating the basic press release.

Ah, yes. Well, obviously, the basic press release will be on both nokia's site and on the Angling Times web site, right?

Try typing this into Google: site:press.nokia.com "angling times" - nothing.

It's a secret, right? It's something we're not supposed to know about until April 1 when the Go Fishing show starts at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre, isn't it? Well, obviously not with the details splashed all over that site! Is it an April Fool joke, a Poisson d'Avril? No, because the fishing show is real, really.

So Fishblog exists, - but nobody told Nokia, and nobody told Angling Times.

Actually, nobody seems to have told Angling Times about the Internet. You don't believe me? Have a look at  Emap's web site - Emap being the publisher. It describes the Angling Times as having "Associated products - Anglingtimes.com" - but it's not a link. And if you go  there, and try the same search at the Angling Times web site... "Your search - site:www.anglingtimes.com fishblog - did not match any documents."
