Smartner’s Always-On E-mail is the Platform-of-Choice for More Mobile Operators Than All Competitors Combined
CTIA Wireless Conference, New Orleans, LA - March 14, 2005 - Smartner™, a leader in carrier-grade mobile eMail and office solutions, today announced its debut in North America. Smartner offers Always-On Mail™, a suite of real-time eMail applications for mobile operators and enterprises that enable mobile workers to fully interoperate with their desktop eMail, PIM and calendar functions of Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Domino via ubiquitous cellular smartphones.
Smartner is entering the North America market with a carrier-grade product and several partnership announcements with Nokia and Sony Ericsson to ship Smartner on handsets distributed throughout North America. Smartner is also partnered with IBM, Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, Oracle, Palm Source and Symbian to ensure interoperability with their enterprise applications.
Smartner was recently chosen by IDC as a Global top vendor to gain market share worldwide, and is the only European company recognize by Gartner Group for mobile eMail.
Platform of Choice for Mobile Operators:
With more than 120,000 enterprise users and 24 telco partners already in Europe and Asia, Smartner is supported by more mobile carriers than any other messaging vendor in the world. Smartner’s Always-On Mail system is a carrier-grade messaging product that works with all Pocket PC, Smartphones and Symbian handsets (two-thirds of all smartphones shipping today).
“Smartner Information Systems has the wind at its back, having had what we can only call an enormously successful fourth quarter in 2004, landing 70,000 new subscribers," said Tony Rizzo, Mobile Technology Sector Head at the industry analyst firm The 451 Group. “The leap in subscribers is attributable to the company exceeding its own forecasts for licensing deals with the wireless carriers. In line with its business approach, Smartner had projected landing four meaningful carrier deals last year; it ended up with seventeen."
Key Features For Enterprises:
Smartner’s Always-On Mail can also be deployed directly on a Microsoft Exchange server or Lotus Domino server to push eMails to mobile workers. Smartner was awarded Best Corporate Wireless Application by the 3GSM Congress, 2003 and is the only mobile enterprise messaging solution that “retro-fits" to a wide range of existing mobile devices - including Nokia and Symbian devices - thus freeing enterprises from expensive hardware upgrades and vendor lock-in.
“Smartner’s Always-On Mail is the easiest and least expensive way for U.S. enterprises to support their mobile staff with an always-on connection to their desktop functions," said Ari Backholm, Vice President of Marketing for Smartner. “Unlike BlackBerry or Good, we work on a wide range of devices - almost two-thirds of all the devices being shipped today. Plus, we can be deployed securely outside the firewall within a matter of hours."
Always-On Mail handles all communications automatically, pushing eMail to the mobile device whenever and wherever there is network coverage. It features:
• Unified view: Any change in eMail or calendar data is instantaneously mirrored on the server. Users always have the same view to their data, both in and out of the office.
• End-to-end secure: All traffic is protected with industry standard, FIPS-compliant, AES 128-bit encryption.
• Lowest cost of ownership: Easy installation and management - requires no firewall or configuration changes. Have your users set up in a matter of hours.
• Wide device support: Available for Pocket PC, Smartphones and Symbian devices (two-thirds of all smartphones shipping today). There are no vendor lock-ins -- you choose the device.
• Retro-fit devices: Works with both new and existing GPRS, GSM and CDMA handsets from makers including Sony Ericsson, Nokia, AudioVox, Motorola, Siemens, Samsung, T-Mobile and many others; does not require enterprises to invest in a fleet of proprietary devices. A complete list of support devices can be found at www.smartner.com/products/devices.html
• Real-time push: Messages and calendar data is automatically pushed to PDA's and smartphones; no waiting or manual checking necessary.
