Location based services - or a queasy ride in a taxi?

by Staff Writer | posted on 04 March 2005

Carol Ellison thinks touch-screen adverts in the back of taxis are "the future of mobile advertising." Probably, they are - but this tells us that Carol Ellison doesn't get motion sickness...

The idea is to put GPS trackers in the cab, and tie advertising to where the car is.

Interactive Taxi is now operating 250 cars in Boston. "Chicago has 350 of them, and San Francisco plans to soon expand its fleet to more than 200," reports Ellison in her www.eWeek.com column.

It's a great idea - at least, for those people who can read in a taxi. Maybe now it's going to New York, it won't be so bad. New York traffic doesn't actually move...
