The first nano-ITX design emerges from a hackers lab...
by Staff Writer | posted on 31 January 2005
Ever since Via developed the tiny mini-ITX motherboard for very small, very cheap PCs, it has been warning the world that it intended to do something even neater and smaller. Last year, it announced the nano-ITX board. At last, it's out.
According to the mini-ITX.com news site, designer Kevin Rose of G4TechTV's "The Screen Savers" has managed to get hold of a prototype Nano-ITX board.
"He stuffed it inside a Mac mini, creating the first Nano-ITX project and overloading his server with slashdotters in one fluid motion," commented the Editor this week.
The nano board is tiny - 12 by 12 cm - and the project required dedication, because Rose couldn't get the card inside the Mac case.
"Several modifications were required to fit the 12x12cm board inside the case, mainly due to the size of the heatsink on the prototype, and the difference in layout and dimensions of the back panels" says the story.
