Death of HP Jornada "exaggerated" as Orange and Vodafone take it on

HP's PocketPC design, the Jornada 'phone edition' was expected to die, after it said that Compaq iPaq would be the mobile brand. It may not be that simple ...

One of Sniffer's favourite sources of stray packets is the webloggy Pocket PC fan club, where members report from shows like the Philadelphia PocketPC Summit - and where the words "Vodafone" and "Orange" emerged.

If the report is accurate, both Vodafone and Orange will be taking the Jornada 928 Phone Edition this year. Will it be re-branded with an iPaq logo? Sniffer expects not.

Check out the report; search the page above for "orange" and read on. It's got some interesting stuff about the SmartPhone, too; it suggests it is actually near launch. But even more interesting is this little roadmap:

VoiceStream - HTC hardware ("Spaceneedle" in the USA), July 2002 Verizon - Audiovox Thera, out now Sprint PCS- AudioVox Thera, mid 2002

mm02 - XDA, June 2002 T-Mobile - HTC hardware, 2002 Orange - Jornada 928, mid 2002 Vodafone - Jornada 928, mid 2002

The interesting thing is: what is the HTC hardware for T-Mobile? The mmo2 XDA is built by HTC - is it going to be the same device? Our Sniffer thinks it may be.
