The sleeping of the 5,000: Tech-Ed kicks off dull ...
by Sniffer | posted on 01 July 2002
The only thing that came as a surprise to the Hunky Mouse at the first keynote here in Barcelona today, was the release of the final version of "J Sharp" J# - Java language commands for .NET. That's only because Hunky is ignorant.
Here's the problem. Vic Gundotra, Developer platform and Evangelism for .NET believes that the delegates to Tech-Ed are all well-informed, up with the goss. Fine! - but if he believes that, why did he just spend an hour talking about .NET as if nobody here has ever heard of it before?
We saw presentations - pre-packaged demos. They were first shown last year, delegates agreed. We met users who say they're using .NET; we met most of them at the launch, and nothing much seems to have changed.
What's the secret, Vic? Is nobody buying .NET and that's why you have to go back to ABC with this audience? Or were you going to announce something really interesting, and at the last moment, it wasn't ready?
The Hunky Mouse didn't snore during the session. Others were less alert ... one can only sympathise, because it was very, very dull.
