"Horrified" Verwaayen intends to end BT obstructiveness
by Guy Kewney | posted on 10 April 2002
BT's "mobile strategy" will be spelled out by new CEO, Ben Verweyen, who is due to give a "breakthrough" presentation this morning.
The announcement will give observers some ideas of where the new boss intends to take the corporation in the mobile and wireless arenas for the next couple of years at least.
"He's likely to want to cut through the crap," predicted one insider. "He's been horrified by what he sees as the lunatic inter-department rivalries and obstructiveness, and wants to simplify the way BT goes about organising itself."
Two days ago, Verwaayen set out the Group's new three-year strategy, saying that BT "intends to be the best provider of communications services and solutions for everybody in the UK, for corporate customers in Europe and with global reach through partnerships."
Today, he'll spell out what this means for mobile users.
