Not that Nick Faldo, "Europe's most successful golfer" would indulge in strong language - no! But if he does get carried away next week at the Open, you can listen in ...

I would have thought that keeping an "audio diary" as you walk from one tee to the next might be a tad distracting; but Nick Faldo has been paid for it. A new and innovative deal with Global Beach and Siren, using the One 2 Infinity wireless subscription service means you can hear what he has to say during his walk around the links. Or at least, that's the potential.

In reality, the deal is more restrained: Craig Manson, commercial director of Siren World Wide, which brokered the "service" said: "The service allows Nick to broadcast a digital voice message to his fans just moments after his final putt of the day and before he speaks to the world's media."

But I thought it was possibly inspiring to people to see just what amazing things are possible in the wonderful world of wireless. Or, to put it another way, never forget that the golden dreams of new technology almost always end up in the world of the banal and absurd when it finally deploys.

To subscribe by text message to the audio diary, send the words "OPEN ON" to number 82333

To subscribe by phone to the audio diary, call 0870 020 0212. And you can get more about one 2 infinity from the web site at www.one2infinity.com or even from www.globalbeach.com which makes the technology available.
