Samsung's new SGH-E700 phone, announced two weeks back, will feature software by Magic4, for mobile messaging, the two companies have announced.

Magic4 describes itself as "the world's leading supplier of mobile messaging software solutions," and its deal with Samsung isn't just a sale of some software, it says. Instead, it's "a strategic industry partnership with Samsung, under which Magic4's MMS software solutions for GSM "will be embedded into Samsung mobile handsets for worldwide use."

The Samsung SGH-E700 is the first product incorporating the magic4 MMS software. "Launched in Germany on August 26th 2003, this product marks the first milestone in this partnership, opening up a completely new experience for consumers and allowing greater expression in peer to peer communication," says the joint announcement - without actually saying what's so wonderful about this "greater expression."

Here's the boss's opinion; J.K. Shin, Vice President, R&D Group, Samsung Electronics said: "Our commitment is to deliver onto the market the best technology for our customer. As the market for mobile data services will grow rapidly, Magic4 as our messaging partner for MMS helps us to deliver the most comprehensive feature set and thoroughly interoperability tested solution in the shortest possible time."

So now you know. "The Magic4 modular client architecture builds around a core functionality engine which means that we can modify the software to meet our own requirements on a customer by customer basis."

All clear now? No, thought not ...
