Motorola's 3G phone "tremendous success" but supplies are short
by Guy Kewney | posted on 22 September 2003
According to UK trade paper Mobile News, the new Motorola a920 smartphone designed for the Hutchison 3G third generation WCMDA network, has been an instant success with buyers. But there aren't enough phones.
The paper quotes CEO Andrew Harrison, head of one of the leading phone sales chains, Carphone Warehouse, as saying that the product was selling "really well" and other multiples support this, claiming that they can sell "everything we get" (Hugh Symonds).
But all the dealer networks polled agreed that they simply couldn't get enough.
Mobile News reports that the enthusiasm might have to be tempered when new rival designs appear, with some saying that the NEC 616 might prove to be more attractive when it starts shipping.
